I hated the cyclops and this new vehicle is like the perfect mix of seamoth and cyclops. That makes some different tools like the pathfinder actually useful. You'll also be doing a lot of cave-diving or spend time in narrow tunnels. There is some real level design in this one. That makes the world feel more handcrafted to me. There is no cyclops anymore so ultra wide tunnels weren't necessary. They also guide you and are placed so you can go quite deep right away. The oxygen plants have also been reworked, they're big and provide a set amount of oxygen. There are special fish now that can replenish your oxygen. + Below Zero has clever mechanics that ensure you don't have to go up for air as much in the early game. I was up and running very quick and after that I haven't been desperately looking for scraps of copper or quartz. Below Zero has a huge amount of limestones and other raw materials lying around all over the place. The game feels great when out of the water now and the range to pick up materials has been increased. The original could be a bit janky on controller (running was awful for example). + Speaking of playing on PS5, the console experience has been improved a ton. The original could look a bit cheap here and there, especially in some of the menu stuff.

The level of detail has improved everywhere and the game has a very polished look now.

I played the original on PS4 and Below Zero on PS5. I'm a big fan of the original and I think this expansion/sequel tackles a lot of the bigger issues with the game. I'm playing this for review and so far it's incredible. If any of it is causing issues I can probably try take a shot at tidying it in the next couple days. I had to scramble a fair bit together on mobile and made a pass on desktop, but would have to redo lots of it and didn't really have the time available. Apologies for the font size being a bit too varied and images a bit small for desktop users.

If you already own the original Subnautica on either platform you'll get free access to the native version featuring higher framerates and resolutions.ĭisclaimer: This is my first OT and I wasn't really planning on making one so be gentle if it sucks a bit, I kinda put it together fast and last minute since the first game never got an OT but I know there's a reasonably large fanbase for it, so it would be cool to see some discussion for it at ERA.

All 3DEP products are public domain. Not only can you buy Subnautica: Below Zero on either PS4 or Xbox One and upgrade for free to their next gen version at no extra cost, but on launch day the original Subnautica will receive a native version for both PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. Other 3DEP products include five-meter DEMs in Alaska as well as various source datasets including the lidar point cloud and interferometric synthetic aperture radar (Ifsar) digital surface models and intensity images. These seamless DEMs were referred to as the National Elevation Dataset (NED) from about 2000 through 2015 at which time they became the seamless DEM layers under the 3DEP program and the NED name and system were retired. Other 3DEP products are nationally seamless DEMs in resolutions of 1/3, 1, and 2 arc seconds. The one-meter DEM is the highest resolution standard DEM offered in the 3DEP product suite.

If a tile crosses two UTM zones, it is delivered in both zones. Each tile is distributed in the UTM Zone in which it lies. All bare earth elevation values are in meters and are referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). The spatial reference used for tiles of the one-meter DEM within the conterminous United States (CONUS) is Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) in units of meters, and in conformance with the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83). One-meter DEM surfaces are seamless within collection projects, but, not necessarily seamless across projects. USGS standard one-meter DEMs are produced exclusively from high resolution light detection and ranging (lidar) source data of one-meter or higher resolution. The elevations in this DEM represent the topographic bare-earth surface. Scientists and resource managers use 3DEP data for hydrologic modeling, resource monitoring, mapping and visualization, and many other applications. This is a tiled collection of the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) and is one meter resolution. The 3DEP data holdings serve as the elevation layer of The National Map, and provide foundational elevation information for earth science studies and mapping applications in the United States.
